The 2024 China Sport Climbing League Finals and the 15th National Games Sprot Climbing Qualification Tournament took place in Chongqing from November 23-25. Athletes ranked in the top 30 in real-time standings for each discipline competed in the League Finals. For the National Games qualifiers, competitors ranked in the top 30 in their respective disciplines - excluding those who had already secured their spots in the National Games - were eligible to compete for qualification spots.

In the men’s speed climbing finals, Long Jianguo from Guizhou claimed gold, with Xue Zhen from Zhejiang taking silver and Zhao Yicheng from Shanghai securing bronze. Long and Zhao tied for first place in the 2024 China Climbing League men’s speed climbing rankings with 2,235 points each, sharing the top spot on the League Finals podium. The women’s speed climbing competition was equally intense, with Zhejiang’s Zhou Yafei clinching victory in 6.74 seconds, beating Wang Shengyan by 0.10 seconds. “I didn’t expect this result. I had a two-week rest period and was only hitting around 6.9 seconds in pre-competition training,” Zhou remarked. In the overall League standings, Wang Shengyan ranked first, followed by Zhou Yafei and Tang Jiaxin in second and third places.

The National Games qualifiers on the 24th saw Lin Yu (Hainan), Wu Yingyi (Fujian), and Wang Xiaoqian (Zhejiang) taking the top three in men’s event. In women’s qualifiers, Tang Jiaxin (Zhejiang), Wang Shengyan (Yunnan), and Yang Feiyan (Chongqing) secured the top-three positions.

With Paris Olympics qualifiers automatically securing National Games spots, 18 men and 18 women have now qualified for the National Games speed climbing event.

In the men’s speed climbing, Olympic atheletes Wu Peng and Long Jinbao from Hunan helped their province reach its full quota (maximum 2 athletes). Other teams securing a full quota include Guizhou, Yunnan, Jiangxi, Shandong, Guangdong, and Zhejiang, while Shanghai, Hubei, Hainan, and Fujian have each secured one.

For women’s speed climbing, Olympic athletes Deng Lijuan (Hunan) and Zhou Yafei (Zhejiang) have contributed to their provinces’ quotas. Teams with full quotas include Hunan, Hubei, Zhejiang, Guizhou, Yunnan, Beijing, Chongqing, and Jiangxi, while Shandong and Shanghai have secured one spot each.

The final day of competition will feature the men’s and women’s combined finals, determining the Finals champions and the League’s annual rankings. Additionally, twelve spots (six men and six women) for the National Games combined event will be up for grabs.
