The 7th Asian Games were held in Tehran, Iran, from September 1 to 16, 1974. The Chinese sports delegation won 33 gold medals, 46 silver medals, and 27 bronze medals, placing third in the gold medal tally behind Japan and Iran.

Two athletes from Zhejiang Province participated in this Asian Games. Track and field athlete Xiong Kouzu, as part of the Chinese team, won second place in the men's 4x100m relay. Swimmer Pan Weicheng finished sixth in the women's 100m backstroke with a time of 1 minute 18.35 seconds.
