Sun Yang was born in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province on December 1, 1991.

He has won championships in many competitions at home and abroad, such as the National Games, the Asian Games, the World Championships, the Short Course Open Championships, and the Olympic Games.

Achievements at the 2012 London Summer Olympic Games:

Gold medal in men's 400m freestyle with a time of 3:40.14, breaking the Olympic record;

Gold medal in men's 1500m freestyle with a time of 14:31.02, breaking the world record;

Silver medal in men's 200m freestyle;

Bronze medal in men's 4× 200m freestyle relay.
