From September 15 to October 1, 2000, the 27th Olympic Games were held in Sydney, Australia. More than 11,000 athletes from 199 countries and regions participated in 28 sports and 300 events. The Chinese delegation had 452 members, including 284 athletes and 168 coaches. They participated in 166 events out of 24 sports, and won 28 gold medals, 16 silver medals, and 15 bronze medals, ranking third in the gold medals list and the total medal list among participating countries and regions.

A total of 13 athletes from Zhejiang Province were selected to the Chinese delegation, and they won one gold medal and two bronze medals, and secured the fifth place and the sixth place in one event respectively, and the eighth place in two events.
