Zhan Xugang was born in Quzhou, Zhejiang Province in 1974.

He broke records and won gold medals in the National Games, the Asian Championships, the World Weightlifting Championships, and other competitions. In 1993, he was titled as “Master of Sports of the International Class”. In 1996, he was named as one of the “Top 10 Chinese Athletes of the Year”.
