Wang Shun was born in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province in February 1994.

On December 7, 2016, Wang Shun won the gold medal in men’s 200m individual medley at the 2016 FINA Short Course World Championships with a time of 1:51.74, marking China’s first world champion in men’s medley. On August 20, 2018, he won the championship in men’s 200m medley at the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games with a time of 1:56.52.

On July 30, 2021, Wang Shun won the championship in men’s 200m individual medley at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games with a time of 1:55.00, breaking the Asian record.
