The 2008 Beijing Olympic Games

The 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, also known as the 29th Summer Olympic Games, opened at 8:00 P.M. on August 8, 2008, at the National Stadium in Beijing, the capital city of the People's Republic of China, and closed on August 24, 2008.

With Beijing as the host city, the Games was participated by over 60,000 athletes, coaches and officials from 204 countries and regions. A total of 11,438 athletes competed for medals of 302 events in 28 sports, and they have created 43 new world records and 132 new Olympic records. 87 countries won medals in the games and China ranked the first on the medal list with 51 gold medals. It is the first Asian country to top the gold medal tally in Olympic history.

Zhejiang had 26 athletes and 11 coaches as members of the Chinese sports delegation and 46 referees for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Among them, 15 athletes won 2 gold medals, 4 silver medals, and 1 bronze medal for China; 2 athletes secured the fourth place; 5 athletes the fifth place; 1 athlete the sixth place; 2 athletes the eighth place; 1 athlete broke the world record.
