Male rower Zhang Shaoyun was born in Zhoushan, Zhejiang Provincein 1967. He was selected to Zhejiang provincial rowing team in 1984 and the national team in 1988.

In 1990, he won the championship in men’s lightweight coxless four at the Beijing Asian Games.
