Female track and field athlete Ye Lianying was born in Shangyu, Zhejiang in 1960. She joined Zhejiang Provincial Sports School in 1974 and was selected to Zhejiang provincial athletics team in 1977.

She won the gold medals in women’s heptathlon at the Asian Athletics Championships in 1981, the National Athletics Championships in 1982, the Fifth National Games in 1983, and the Sixth Asian Athletics Championships in 1985. She was also the runner-up in women’s heptathlon at the 1983 New Delhi Asian Games and the Fifth Asian Athletics Championships.

She won the silver medal in women’s heptathlon at the 1986 Seoul Asian Games.
