From November 29 to December 4, 1982, the Ninth Asian Games was held in New Delhi, India. The Chinese delegation secured 61 gold, 51 silver, and 41 bronze medals, surpassing Japan for the first time to top the gold medal tally at the Asian Games.

Zhejiang Province was represented by nine athletes, all of whom achieved excellent performance, totaling seven gold, four silver, and one bronze medals, as well as one fourth place and one sixth place. Among them, Liu Qun, who secured the championship in the men’s single sculls 2000m, was honored as a Youth Hero by the city of Jaipur, India.
