Male swimmer Wu Peng was born on May 16, 1987 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. He entered Hangzhou Chen Jinglun Sports School in 1992, Zhejiang provincial swimming team in 2000, and the national training team in 2001.

In 2001, he won the gold medal in men’s 200m butterfly, and the third place in men’s 400m individual medley and 1,500m freestyle at the Ninth National Games.

In 2002, he won the championships in men’s 200m butterfly, 200m backstroke and 400m individual medley, and the runner-up in men’s 4×200 freestyle relay at the 14th Asian Games held in Busan.
