Female shooter Wang Xian was born in May 1978 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. She was selected to Zhejiang provincial shooting team from Zhejiang Provincial Sports School in 1993 and then entered the national shooting team in 1997.

She won the championships in women’s air rifle at the 1996 National Shooting Championship (individual), in women’s standard rifle 3×20 at the Eighth National Games in 1997, in women’s 3×20 sporting rifle team at the 1998 World Shooting Championships, in women’s 50m sporting rifle at the 13th Asian Games, in women’s 3×20 sporting rifle at the 1999 ISSF World Cup in Seoul, in women’s 3×20 sporting rifle at the 2001 Shooting World Cup in Germany, and in women’s 50m smallbore rifle 3×20 at the 2002 ISSF World Cup in the United States.

In 2002, she won the championship in women’s 50m rifle 3×20 team, the runner-up in women’s 60-shot prone team, and the third place in women’s 50m rifle 3×20 at the 14th Asian Games held in Busan.
