Male rower Chen Hong was born in 1977 in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province. He entered Ningbo Sports School in 1986 and was selected to Zhejiang provincial rowing team in December 1994.

In 1999, he won the championship in lightweight men’s double sculls 2000m at the National Rowing Championships. In 2001, he won the championship in lightweight men’s double sculls 2000m at the Ninth National Games.

In 2002, he was the runner-up in lightweight men’s double sculls 2000m at the 14th Asian Games held in Busan.
