Male canoe & kayak athlete Meng Guanliang was born on January 24, 1977 in Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province. He entered Shaoxing Sports School in 1991, then joined Zhejiang provincial canoeing team in 1993, and national canoeing team in 1995.

In 1994, he won the championships in men’s canoe single 500m and 1000m at the National Youth Canoe & Kayak Championships. In 1997, he won the championships in men’s canoe single 500m and 1000m at the Eighth National Games. In 1998, he won the championship in men’s canoe single 1,000m at the 13th Asian Games. In 2001, he won the championships in men’s canoe single 500m and 1000m at the Ninth National Games.

In 2002, he won the championships in men’s canoe single 500m and 1000m at the 14th Asian Games held in Busan.
