Li Ling was born in Puyang, Henan Province in July 1989. In 2003, she registered as a member of Ningbo Sports Training Center.

She won the silver medal in women’s pole vault at the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games, gold medals in women’s pole vault at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games and at the 2016 Asian Indoor Athletics Championships. She broke the Asian Indoor Athletics record that had been set by herself as well as the Asian record with a score of 4.70 meters.
