Female football player Zhao Yan was born in May 1972 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. In 1983, she was selected to Hangzhou women’s football team. She started to study at Shanghai University of Sport in 1989 and then was selected to the national women’s football team.

She won the championship in women’s football at the 1998 Asian Games held in Bangkok.
