Male canoe & kayak athlete Meng Guanliang was born on January 24, 1977 in Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province. He entered Shaoxing Sports School in 1991, Zhejiang provincial canoeing team in 1993 and the national canoeing team in 1995.

He won the championships in men’s canoe single 500m and 1000m at the National Youth Canoe & Kayak Championships in 1994 and at the Eighth National Games in 1997.

He won the gold medal in men’s canoe single 1000m and the second place in men’s kayak double 500m at the 1998 Bangkok Asian Games.
