Female gymnast He Ning was born in Taizhou, Zhejiang Province on November 18, 1990. In 1995, she was admitted to Ningbo Sports School, then Zhejiang Provincial Sports School and Zhejiang provincial gymnastics team. In 2006, she was selected to the national gymnastics team.

In 2005, she won the bronze medal in women’s uneven bars at the 10th National Games.

In 2006, she bagged the gold medals in women’s all-around, uneven bars, balance beam and team events at the Third Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships, and in women’s team event at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships.

She clinched the gold medals in gymnastics women’s team event and women’s all-around, and the runner-up in women’s uneven bars at the 2006 Doha Asian Games.
