Female Wushu athlete Mao Yaqi was born in Lucheng District, Wenzhou on December 3, 1982. She started learning Wushu at the age of six. She entered the Zhejiang provincial Wushu team in 1992 and the national Wushu training team in 2004.

She won the second place in women’s Gunshu all-around at the 2000 National Wushu Taolu Championships. In 2003, she won the first place in women’s Nanquan and women’s individual all-around at the National Wushu Taolu Championships. In 2004, she won the first place in women’s Nanquan at the Sixth Asian Wushu Championships, and won the championship in women’s Nanquan & Nandao all-around at the 10th National Games in 2005.

She won the championship in women’s Nanquan all-around at the Doha Asian Games in 2006.
