Female artistic gymnast Ding Yidan was born in Huzhou, Zhejiang Province in May 1990.

In 2004, she took the championships in the junior team and rope exercises events, and was the runner-up in exercises with ribbons at the Second Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships. In 2005, she won the third place in artistic gymnastics team event and the fifth place in the individual all-around at the 10th National Games.

In 2006, she won the third place in the team event, the second place in bar exercises and the fourth place in rope exercises at the Third Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships. At the National Artistic Gymnastics Individual Championships, she ranked the second in the large team event, and swept the titles in the adult group individual team, the individual all-around, rope exercises and exercises with ribbons. At the National Championships, she claimed the titles in the individual all-around, ball exercises, and bar exercises, and was the runner-up in rope exercises.

At the Doha Asian Games in 2006, she won the third place in women’s artistic gymnastics team and the fourth place in the individual all-around.
