Male track and field athlete Li Rongxiang was born in Changxing, Zhejiang Province in 1972. He entered Huzhou Youth Sports School in 1985 and was selected to the provincial athletics team in 1989.

He won the championship in men’s javelin throw at the Second National Youth Games in 1989, and broke the Asian youth record in 1991. In 2001, he won the gold medals in men’s javelin throw at the East Asian Games and the National Games in Guangdong. In 2002, he won the championships in men’s javelin throw at the 14th National Games and the Busan Asian Games. The next year, he claimed the title in men’s javelin throw at the National Track and Field Championships. In 2004, he won the championship in men’s javelin throw at the National Track and Field Grand Prix in Beijing, and ranked the 15th in men’s javelin throw at the Athens Olympic Games. In 2005, he took the championships in men’s javelin throw at the National Games and the East Asian Games.

In 2006, he finished third in men’s javelin throw at the Doha Asian Games.
