Male judo athlete Guo Lei was born in Baoding, Hebei Province on April 26, 1982. He entered Baoding Sports School in 1990 and was admitted to the competitive sports School affiliated to Beijing Sport University in 1996 before he entered Zhejiang provincial judo team. In 2000, he was selected to the national judo team.

He won the first place in men’s 81kg category at the National Judo Championships in 2003, the Finnish Judo Open in 2005, and the National Men’s Judo Tournaments and Championships in 2006.

At the Doha Asian Games in 2006, he won the third place in men’s 81kg category judo.
