Male rower Sun Jie was born on June 13, 1988 in Fuyang District, Hangzhou. He joined Hangzhou Aquatic Sports Center in 2000, and was selected to Zhejiang provincial rowing team in 2002 and the national rowing training team in 2006.

He won championships in men’s lightweight single sculls at the 2006 National Rowing Spring Championship and the National Rowing Championships, the gold medal in men’s lightweight double sculls at the 11th National Games in 2009, and the second place in men’s lightweight double sculls in the Fifth East Asian Games.

At the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games, Sun Jie won the championship in men’s lightweight double sculls teamed with Zhang Guolin.
